Janette King is a producer, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and DJ based in Montreal. Janette’s unique sound blends together soulful vocals, upbeat production style, and honest lyrics to create a truly captivating listening experience. EP 143  is her most engaging work yet.  The collection takes you through the many different sides of love; the pain in losing it, the anxieties and uncertainty in having it, and the excitement in finding it. Told from Janette King’s own experiences, the personal nature of 143 can be heard in the emotive delivery of the tracks and felt within each penetrating beat.

Janette King

143 showcases the cyclical nature of love as it’s bookended by the weighty, pained emotions of “Love Another” and then the more buoyant “Fool” in which King has found a new all-consuming romantic spark. Like love, King’s 143 is exciting, unpredictable, and clearly comes from the heart.

There's a lot to like on 143, an EP from Montreal recording artist Janette King. It's solidly produced, pop-oriented R&B that cleaves to a familiar, contemporary sound and feel. Drawing on her disparate musical influences — James BlakeErykah BaduSZA — and her Caribbean heritage, the producer, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and DJ serves up well-constructed electronic grooves and soundscapes.

- Ryan B. Patrick, Exclaim!

Janette King is an artist-producer, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and DJ who fully embraces all art is political at its core. Being a queer woman of colour who works to empower marginalized communities - a focus on LGBTQT, BIPOC, and Womxn - she knows the power that music has for communities. This type of transparency between an established artist and those in the community at large is refreshing.
